Rafik earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Western Ontario. Prior to attending Western Law, Rafik completed his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree at York University with a major in Criminology.
Rafik’s legal career began during his first year of law school as an Associate Caseworker at Community Legal Services, the legal aid clinic in London, Ontario. Rafik returned to the clinic during his second and third years as a Caseworker and had the opportunity to represent individuals charged with summary conviction offences that could not afford a private lawyer and did not qualify for Legal Aid. Rafik’s time at Community Legal Services taught him that everyone needs to be properly represented by the best defence possible in order to ensure a fair trial. This is a core belief that drives Rafik to advocate in his clients’ interests at all stages of a legal proceeding.
Rafik was a summer student at Pinkofskys Criminal Trial and Appeal Lawyers during the summer following his first year of law school. He returned to the firm, under its new name, Rusonik, O’Connor, Robbins, Ross, & Angelini LLP, as a summer student following his second year andthen to complete his articles. Rafik began his practice immediately upon completing his articles as a trial lawyer at Rusonik, O’Connor, Robbins, Ross, & Angelini LLP.
Rafik represents clients that have been charged with criminal and quasi-criminal offences and has defended clients against a variety of charges at the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, and the Provincial Offences Court. Rafik represents clients throughout Ontario, primarily in Toronto and Brampton. Rafik is an avid believer of the rights and values entrenched in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and has a particular interest in defending clients who have been illegally stopped and searched by the police.
